Total Shoulder Prosthesis; It is an intervention applied for shoulder joint cartilage damage. It is a surgery where deformed joint cartilage is removed, and artificial moving metal surface is placed instead. Overload, rheumatic diseases, instability and previous fracture sequels are listed among the causes.
Shoulder pain and limitation of movement are observed in patients. There may also be stuck on the shoulder and sound during movements. The pain increases over time and painful conditions can occur at night. Treatment is planned entirely according to the complaints and characteristics of the patient. Initially pain killers, exercise and physical therapy may be helpful. In progressive cases, surgical treatment is applied if the pain is very severe. The damaged joint is removed and artificial joint (prosthesis) is placed in the surgery. By this way, pains of patients are relieved, as well as their function is increased.
In recent years, reverse prosthesis applications are performed in cases where joint cartilage is deformed with ruptures in rotator cuff that are too wide to be repaired. In this method, which is mostly used in advanced ages, significant increases in shoulder functions are observed.
